Lesson Plan

Excel Lesson Plan: Session 2

What is a pronoun? Lesson Plan

  1. Using Excel in a first grade class to teach the students what a pronoun is, is an interesting way of implementing excel into the lesson plan. With the use of a smartboard, I can access excel and the entire class can see the spread sheet. After defining what a pronoun is I will ask the students to assist me in naming 5 types of pronouns. I will give the class 5 categories and they will have to name 5 pronouns for each category. The Excel spread sheet will assist me with categorizing and organizing the pronouns.

What is a pronoun? Handout

  1. Excel can also be used in a different way but with the same lesson plan. Once the students are very familiar with what a pronoun is, I can use excel to create a handout for the students to either do in class or for homework. Once again, I will give the students 5 categories and tell them to write down as many as they can, or to fill the boxes on the handout.

Concept Mapping: Session 6

William Shakespeare Lesson Plan

This lesson plan is targeted to students in grades 8-9. The topic of the lesson is “Type of  William Shakespeare Plays”.

The goal of the lesson is for the students to have an understanding as to what types of plays William Shakespeare wrote and the names of those plays. The concept map will help me explain the types of plays William Shakespeare wrote. It will also help me list the various plays by category. Each type of play has its own set of characteristics which make it fit into that category. The concept map can help the students as a class decide which type of play they would like to read. After they have decided which kind of play they want to read they can pick a play which is linked the specific type of play on the concept map.

3-4 lessons can be taught using this concept map. The first class will focus on one type of play and its characteristics and a brief summary of each play linked to that specific type of play. The second class will focus on the second type of play and its characteristics. A brief summary will be given for the titles of the plays connected to the category being discussed during the second class. The third class will focus on the last type of play which has yet to be discussed. Once again, students will receive a list of characteristics that define the third category and a brief summary of the play titles associated with that specific type of play. Once all 3 categories have been discussed the students will vote on which category they would like to read a play from. Once the category has been chosen by the class, they will also choose a specific play that they seem most interested in.

Session 7:

Grade Level: Grade 5

Subjects: English and Music

Objective: Using Web 2.0 features, students will listen to a song on Pandora, use Wikipedia to look up information on the artist, search the lyrics of their chosen song, and then pick 5 nouns, 5 verbs, and 5 adjectives and create a poem using the 15 words they selected from the song lyrics.

For example, the students would first pick a song listened to on Pandora. Pandora is a Web 2.0 tool that allows us to listen to music based on our personal preferences at the moment. This tool uses our prior information to select songs at random, within the same genre.

  • The song I chose from Pandora is Beauty by Dru Hill. The students would then look up the lyrics of the song they selected. Below are the lyrics to my selected song.
Sorry, didn’t notice you there
Then again you didn’t notice me
So we’ll remain passers by
Until the next time we speak
I hope that I can make you mine
‘For another man steals your heart
And once your beauty is mine
I swear we will never be apart
Walks by me every day
Her and love are the same
The woman that’s stolen my heart
And beauty is her name
I’m hoping I can make you mine
‘For another man steals your heart
And once this beauty is mine
I swear we will never be apart
It didn’t take much time to think about
But I didn’t want to move too fast
Cause I knew that when I saw you again
That I wouldn’t wanna let you pass
Cause my eyes have seen the glory
In the coming of your smile
So I swear if you ever come ’round again
Please stay for a while
Walks by me every day
Her and love are the same
The woman that’s stolen my heart
And beauty is her name
I’m hoping I can make you mine
‘For another man steals your heart
And once this beauty is mine
I swear we will never be apartYou are so beautiful
When I’m down and out
I never seem to get tired
Tired of your love
Cause you are wonderful

You’re wonderful
I’m dying to make you see
Anything you want inside your heart
You can find right here inside of me

Walks by me every day
Her and love are the same
The woman that’s stolen my heart
And beauty is her name
I’m hoping I can make you mine
‘For another man steals your heart
And once this beauty is mine
I swear we will never be apart
Walks by me every day
Her and love are the same
The woman that’s stolen my heart
And beauty is her name
I’m hoping I can make you mine
‘For another man steals your heart
And once this beauty is mine
I swear we will never be apart

Walks by me every day
Her and love are the same
The woman that’s stolen my heart
And beauty is her name

  • After they have found the lyrics, students will use Wikipedia to find general information on the artist of the song. Wikipedia is also a tool of Web 2.0 that is easily accessed by both teachers and students. It is a source of information that can be accessed by many and edited by many. The purpose of the background information is to inform the other students of who the artist/group is incase others may not know who they are.
Dru Hill is an American singing group, most popular during the late 1990’s, whose repertoire included R&B, soul, and gospel music. Life

Everyone walks so fast through life not enjoying anything.

All the wonderful moments have been stolen from them.

My heart beats quickly,

My body gets tired,

I can’t move my limbs.

All due to this beautiful man I met.

He tells me my inner beauty is as great as my outer.

I am the woman of his dreams.

Slowing down was the only option.

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.”, he said to me

I swear, I think I’m in love and he’s all mine!
